Call in the Line Judge

Nothing bothers me more than to hear a tennis player coming off the court complaining about the bad line calls his opponent made.  In our house hold the words “he’s such a cheater” are not allowed to be uttered and a loss is never to be blamed on bad line calls.  As far as I am concerned that is an excuse and if you allowed them to cheat you out of the match than you deserved to lose.  I know I sound harsh and I’m sure you are thinking about all those times you or your child where the victims of the infamous tennis cheater that calles the critical point out if it is anywhere near the line.  I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, because we all know it does.  What I am saying is that it is not an excuse for a loss.  You always had the option of calling for a line judge.

Our children have been instructed to call in a line judge on the second bad call.  If you wait for the third call it is likely that the damage to the match has been done.  Not many players can give up three game points and remain in control of the match.  It is also apparent in our household that the third bad call is the one that will cause them to “lose their head.”  If you want to see an emotional melt down on the court make three bad calls and my kid will be having a fit.  Therefore, to avoid this situation don’t allow it to happen.  The line judge can help take the emotions out of the game and allow you to focus on your performance.

So you see there is never a reason to come off the tennis court and complain about your opponents line calls.  If you didn’t call in a line judge, you cheated yourself out of a fair match.
